Overview:
The “Revitalizing Bramiyeh” project presents an evidence-based approach to urban re-planning in the town of Bramiyeh, aiming to fulfill the various needs of its residents while achieving sustainable development. Drawing from extensive research, including land-use mapping, interviews with residents, SWOT analyses of different zones, and the principles of “New Urbanism,” the project proposes a “Garden City” concept for the town’s future development.
Research Findings:
- Land-Use Mapping: The town has been classified into four distinct zones (A, B, C, and D), with the following land usage:
- 50% Residential
- 7% General Services
- 1% Manufacturing
- 1% Transportation
- 31% Green Areas
- 9% Unused
- 1% Governmental
- Residents’ Needs: Interviews revealed key areas that residents consider priorities, such as:
- Recreational spaces
- Educational facilities
- Healthcare provisions
- Infrastructure improvements
- Religious centers
- Commercial amenities
- Zone-Specific Findings:
- Zone A highlights a need for job creation and infrastructure improvements.
- Zone B displays good street conditions and general municipal attention.
- Zone C is well-maintained but requires retaining walls.
- Zone D suffers from limited municipal engagement, focused only on tax collection.
- SWOT Analysis: Each zone underwent a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats analysis to determine specific needs and potential for development.
- New Urbanism and Garden City Concepts: Research into these urban planning philosophies informed the development proposal.
Proposed Solutions:
- Residential, Mosque, and School Development: Utilization of the available green zone adjacent to high-density areas to improve residential quality and provide religious and educational amenities.
- Industrial Zones: Light industries at the town’s edges to create jobs and meet local consumption needs, leveraging available agricultural resources.
- Green Belt: To define town borders, prevent random sprawl, and conserve its green character.
- Public Sports Facilities: Leverage the town’s natural features to encourage active lifestyles.
- Transportation: Establishment of a main bus station and peripheral stops to improve connectivity with Saida.
- Public Promenade: A recreational area aimed at fostering social interaction and bridging gaps between residents of diverse religious and social backgrounds.
By systematically addressing these elements, the “Revitalizing Bramiyeh” project aims to create a harmonious, sustainable, and vibrant community that meets the diverse needs of its residents.
